Features

We've left nothing out of the design of the SnugFit!
The result is an underquilt uniquely tailored to the specific needs of a hammock.

Our exclusive Curvature-Cut, Radial-Spaced Baffles combine with our Full-Width Suspension System to provide the ultimate in shaped design--meaning more warmth and comfort for you!

The Full-Width Suspension System gently holds the SnugFit UnderQuilt to the underside of the hammock without overly compressing the down, regardless of how you move or lie in the hammock and eliminates those troubling cold spots found in less sophisticated underquilts.

But that's not all; we also vary the thickness of the baffles to put more of our High-Quality 900-Fill Down Insulation where you need it the most. In addition, our exclusive Zero-Migration Down-Fill Implementation keeps the down in place,
all night long and night after night.

"This underquilt will raise your expectations of what an underquilt can do."

From the Creator of the SnugFit UnderQuilt:

Hammocks have curves. In fact, hammocks have curves along both their length and their width. On a flat quilt, the dimensions of the fabric on one side of the quilt are the same as the dimensions of the fabric on the other side of the quilt regardless of the thickness of the quilt. On a curved underquilt, the dimensions of the fabric on the inner surface of the quilt are less than the dimensions of the fabric on the outer surface of the quilt by an amount determined by both the thickness of the underquilt and the amount of curvature. This difference in dimensions for the inner surface versus the outer surface is often referred to as a differential or a differential shape. If the differential shape of an underquilt is a good match for the hammock, the fit of the underquilt is improved. Along with the improvement in fit, the differential shape also makes the inner surface dramatically less susceptible to down compression when the underquilt is held snug against a hammock. With an underquilt that is not overly susceptible to down compression it is possible and desirable to use a full width suspension that gently holds the underquilt snug against the hammock. This combination of a differential shaped, or curved underquilt and a full width suspension system that gently holds the underquilt to the bottom of the hammock has been achieved with the SnugFit UnderQuilt.

Flat quilts attached to the underside of hammocks tend to be loose fitting because they simply can't fit the curved nature of a hammock, particularly with the serious issue they have with down compression if they are snug against the bottom side of a hammock. The SnugFit UnderQuilt fits better and therefore works better than loose fitting underquilts. The SnugFit UnderQuilt has curves to match the curves of a hammock and a full width suspension system to take advantage of that to provide a warm snug fit whether you lay down the center of the hammock, or you lay with your feet to one side of the hammock, or you lay on your side in a fetal position. Cantankerous fit issues with poorly fitting underquilts that often result in cold spots due to excessive down compression or significant air gaps between the insulation and the portion of the hammock that you are laying on are eliminated with the SnugFit UnderQuilt. No midnight adjustments are needed as the full width suspension system of the SnugFit UnderQuilt adjusts to your every movement as well as the overnight stretch of your hammock, keeping you warm by gently holding the insulation snugly against your hammock. Issues with down migration, or down inadvertently and slowly shifting to the low points of the baffles, are eliminated in the SnugFit UnderQuilt by filling the baffled tubes with the precise amount of down needed to prevent down migration.

The SnugFit UnderQuilt is offered in two models. The Speer model turns a Speer Hammock into a unique insulated hammock where the insulation and hammock work as one, for an experience that will raise your expectations of what an underquilt should be. The SnugFit is also fully compatible with the removable bugnet on the Speer Hammock. The SnugFit Underquilt was designed for the Speer Hammock and it worked so well that Speer Hammocks decided to offer a Universal model that allows hammock users that don't yet own a Speer Hammock to enjoy the same benefits. The Universal model differs from the Speer model in that it does not continuously attach along the sides like the Speer model does with its hook and loop attachment strips, instead it utilizes side attachment tabs for various hammock configurations-- hammocks with symmetrical side pullouts or asymmetrical side pullouts or no side pullouts. If you decide you want to upgrade your hammock to a Speer Hammock after using the SnugFit Underquilt on your existing hammock, Speer Hammocks offers an Upgrade to your Universal model that will turn your new Speer Hammock into a uniquely insulated hammock.
